Migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11 on an IT workstation managed by BITS

Switch to main content of the section

Forced upgrade to Windows 11 at the university:
05. May 2025

End of Windows 10 support:
October 2025

Windows 11 is installed as an update on the computer during migration. This means that the previous working environment (all programmes, individual settings, etc.) is completely retained.

In order to choose the best time, the update can be initiated independently via the Portal Manager.

Due to the time required, totalling 4-6 hours, the update should definitely be started at the end of the working day and not before a meeting or similar! This means, for example: Leave your workplace and find your PC ready to start with Windows 11 the next morning.

Important for notebooks / laptops:
The computer must be connected to the network in the office on campus.

ATTENTION: As soon as the update has been triggered, the computer will restart a short time later. It is then no longer possible to stop or cancel this process! So please save all files being processed and close open programmes beforehand.
